Empty Bowls

But, you said there wouldn't be any more bowl-a-thons!

A year's worth of work by a dedicated group of people came to fruition today. These are a couple of the bowls created by MaMa.

It's now a tradition that we take photos on this spot.

Kelly was happy to receive her own credentials. She gladly wrote her name in the box.
The little purple teapot brooch was a limited edition item in memory of Kevin.
MaMa made 60 and handed them out to Potters Guild members.

Kelly examined one of MaMa's pieces in the silent auction.

Another one of MaMa's works in the silent auction. This necklace was made in memory of Kevin.
It had the little 3D teapot on it designed by Diana K.
FYI: That's May Lea our friend that tie dyed Kelly's favorite onesies!

In all, there were over 2000 bowls starting the day there.
This is before we let the crowds in (notice them at the gate). There were many people that came with empty boxes and sacks to fill.

It was an early morning for Kelly, so we took her stroller for her to have a place to nap.

Kelly took some photos too...
These shoes have seen the day. They were too big for Kelly when we got them in China and have become her favorite sparkly shoes.

We met the woman who had the winning bid on the commemorative necklace. She and her husband had not heard of Kevin's death until the day of Empty Bowls. An emotional connection was made. They had a very friendly dog, and were very nice to Kelly.

Kelly can't wait until she's big enough to use a wheel. For now, she likes watching other people throwing.

All in all, it was a good day. It was a long, hot day. It ended with just shy of $30,000 raised to support a local charity's homeless programs.
That's a lot of work for such a small group.
